Emailing Your Resume

Here's how to write a short cover note to preceed your resume in the body of your email message.

Step 5: Write a short cover note. Write a cover note to the employer, which will be followed by your e-resume in the body of the email message. It’s important to keep the note short. Here’s why: You can get the most impact from your email presentation if the employer doesn’t have to scroll his email message to see that it contains a resume. This can be achieved by keeping your cover note brief. Click here to see some sample email cover notes.

Once you’ve composed your cover note, do the following:

A. Convert it to Text Only or Plain Text and adjust it according to Steps 1 and 2 in this section.

B. Set the margins so that no line exceeds 65 characters and spaces, and then save the document as Text Only with Line Breaks (see Steps 3 and 4).

C. Copy your cover note and paste it at the top of your resume in the ResTextBreak.txt document.

See Joseph Lynch's cover note and resume in Text Only with Line Breaks on the Next Page.
