Area Job Conditions

Lewiston (Maine), Corvallis (Oregon), and Columbia (Missouri) can boast the most medical secretaries for their size. Lynchburg (Virginia), Blacksburg (Virginia), and Houma (Louisiana) have the fewest per capita.

The highest salaries for workers are found in Burlington (Vermont), Fort Collins (Colorado), and Bridgeport (Connecticut), and the lowest-paying areas are in McAllen (Texas), Alexandria (Louisiana), and Wichita Falls (Texas).

Training and Education

Many employers require that job applicants for this career have moderate-term on-the-job training. The percentage of medical secretaries with a bachelor's degree or better is 18%. Approximately 49% of workers went to college, but did not have to get a four year degree. Completing high school was all that was needed for 33% of employees.
