Area Job Conditions

Popular cities for court reporters include Topeka (Kansas), Columbia (South Carolina), and El Paso (Texas), and the least popular are Newark (New Jersey), Edison (New Jersey), and Milwaukee (Wisconsin).

Workers looking for high paying jobs should consider Portland (Oregon), Oakland (California), and New York (New York), and avoid Lafayette (Louisiana), Tampa (Florida), and Birmingham (Alabama).

Training and Education

Employees often get a postsecondary vocational award before beginning their career. About 38% of court reporters have four year degrees. Workers that went to college (but did not get a bachelor's degree) are about 39% of the total. Some employees, about 23%, did not pursue education beyond high-school.
